Minesweeper rules are very simple. The board is divided into cells, with mines randomly distributed. To win, you need to open all the cells. The number on a cell shows the number of mines adjacent to it Mines game online. Using this information, you can determine cells that are safe, and cells that contain mines. Cells suspected of being mines can be flagged with a long press.
Minesweeper was originally developed by Microsoft for Windows 3.1 and was then included with every successor version for the PC; since Windows 8 it has to be installed as an app from the Windows Store. The game is missing with Windows Mobile up to the version Windows Mobile 2003 SE. In many countries a free Xbox Live Minesweeper app is offered for Windows Phone via the integrated Windows Phone Store. With Windows Vista it was completely reworked and has for example the possibility to replace the mines with flowers. Minesweeper was also integrated into the 1999 Siemens S25 mobile phone. Records, which were achieved on Windows enclosed program versions, are not accepted for international and national best lists, because the current version gives the player the possibility to play on a playing field with the same mine positions several times in a row (restart) and previous versions are not safe against cheats and hacks. For competitions and rankings only the programs «Minesweeper Arbiter», «Minesweeper X» and «Viennasweeper» are used. Based on Minesweeper, the paper-based game lighting was developed.

I’ve been making games for about 3 years now (see top of page for links). Mostly they have been card games, but I’ve also created Sudoku and Yahtzee. This time I wanted something different than a card game so I decided to make a clone of one of my all time favorite games, Minesweeper.

By applying these two rules iteratively, you can clear large parts of the board. For example, you might flag a mine based on one clue, which then allows you to clear safe cells next to a neighboring clue, which in turn reveals more area and clues, and so on. Always scan the board for these straightforward opportunities before moving to more complex reasoning.
Edge and corner situations also provide easy cues. A “1” in a corner has only three neighbors; if two of them have been cleared as safe, the third must be a mine if the “1” hasn’t been satisfied yet. Similar logic goes for edges (with five neighbors) or any situation where the number of covered neighbors exactly matches the clue or the remaining count needed.
At first, each cell is covered and the player does not know what is hidden under each cell. On the first turn, the player must click with his mouse anywhere on the board. This will show you the cell he clicked on and some of the surrounding cells. Some of these cells have numbers in them.

You’ve won the game when you’ve opened all squares that don’t contain a mine. If you’ve opened all the empty/nr squares but haven’t flagged the mine squares remaining, they will be auto-flagged and you have won. So, essentially flagging is not required, it’s only there to help you keep track of where you think the mines are. The real way to win is open all the non-mine squares. This can be used to gain a tiny bit of speed if you’re trying to improve your time 🙂
